Teachers
Forum -- Thursday, June 12
We are again holding what
started as a workshop to introduce schoolteachers to bluegrass
music. Our objective has evolved, however. We now
view bluegrass music, not merely as something that can be taught in a
school curriculum, but as a significant tool for connecting young
people with life in their communities.
What started as a workshop is
now more of a forum. After a morning introduction to
bluegrass -- this is similar to what was done in the early years of the
workshop -- participants share their own experiences in using bluegrass
to improve learning overall. Participants include not just
schoolteachers but anybody with a passion for helping prepare young
people for productive citizenship.
After lunch, Forum
participants will visit the Music Camp where youngsters from eight to
eighteen will be in the last of three days of learning to pick and sing
bluegrass music. Among other things, the youngsters will sing
a song to a horse, Danthebluegrassman,
There is no charge for the
Forum. Participants who wish to stay for the Festival of the
Bluegrass will be given free tickets to the Festival.
Schoolteachers will also be given professional development certificates
at the close of the day.
